NCERT releases new Class 9 Social Science textbook for students

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has released a new Social Science textbook for Class 9, adding Understanding Society: India and Beyond, Social Science Textbook for Grade 9, Part 2 to its latest set of school publications.

The textbook will be available for purchase from September 29, 2026, NCERT said in a press statement issued on September 28. Students, teachers, parents and researchers can purchase the book through the council’s authorised sales channels.

New addition to Class 9 textbooks

The newly released book is titled Understanding Society: India and Beyond and has been introduced as the Social Science textbook for Grade 9, Part 2.

NCERT has confirmed the publication and its availability but has not provided detailed information about the chapters or themes covered in the book in its latest announcement.
