IIT Director recruitment 2026: MoE opens applications for Delhi, Indore, Mandi campuses

The Ministry of Education has opened the recruitment process for Directors at three Indian Institutes of Technology, with applications invited for IIT Delhi, IIT Indore and IIT Mandi.

Separate recruitment advertisements have been issued for the three institutes, and eligible candidates can apply in the prescribed format by Oct 31, 2026. The Director is responsible for overseeing an IIT's academic and administrative functioning.

Applicants must meet the specified academic, professional and administrative requirements to be considered for the position. Candidates are required to hold a PhD and demonstrate an outstanding academic record throughout their educational career.

Applicants should have at least 10 years of experience as a professor at a reputed engineering or technology institute or university, along with a demonstrated record of supervising PhD students.

Candidates should also possess a minimum of five years of administrative experience and the leadership capabilities needed to head an Institute of National Importance.

An engineering background will be preferred. However, candidates with exceptional qualifications in Science, Mathematics or Management may also be considered in special cases.

Candidates must be below 60 years of age as of the application deadline.

Eligible candidates are required to submit a detailed resume in the prescribed format covering their teaching and research experience, industry-academia collaborations and administrative responsibilities.

The application must also include a two-page statement explaining the candidate's suitability for the position, a two-page vision statement outlining their plans for the institute, and contact details of at least two distinguished referees.

The Director's position carries a monthly salary of ₹225,000, in addition to allowances applicable under government rules.
