GATE 2027 registration closes Sep 27, late applications open till Oct 5

The registration window for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 is set to close on September 27, 2026, for candidates applying without a late fee.

IIT Madras is organising GATE 2027. The online application process opened on Sep 2 through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).

Candidates who miss the regular deadline will have another opportunity to submit their applications with a late fee until October 5, 2026.

GATE 2027 registration details

Candidates can apply for one or two GATE papers, subject to the permitted two-paper combinations. The examination will cover 30 test papers this year.

A new Robotics and Automation (RA) paper has also been introduced for GATE 2027. The official GATE website has additionally listed revised syllabi and changes to some paper codes and two-paper combinations.

There is no age limit for appearing in GATE 2027, and candidates can appear for the examination any number of times.

IIT Madras has made DigiLocker-based registration a key part of the GATE 2027 application process for Indian nationals.

Candidates can now also submit applications using an unverified DigiLocker account. Such applications will be scrutinised after the registration deadline, and candidates using unverified accounts will have to undergo document verification at the examination hall. The GATE authorities have advised candidates to use a verified DigiLocker account where possible.

Candidates have also been advised not to delete the DigiLocker account used for their GATE 2027 application, whether verified or unverified, as future communication from GATE 2027 will be made through that account.

GATE 2027 will be conducted over six days — February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027. The city allotment notification is scheduled for Jan 4, while the result is scheduled to be announced on March 19, 2027.

The application rectification window will open on Oct 14 and close on October 21, 2026. The admit card release date has not yet been announced.

A valid GATE score can be used for admission to eligible postgraduate programmes, including master's and doctoral programmes in fields such as engineering, technology, architecture and science. GATE scores are also used by several Public Sector Undertakings for recruitment.

Candidates who intend to apply without the late fee must complete their GATE 2027 registration by Sep 27.
