The collaboration will focus on AI, blockchain, digital governance, financial inclusion, and sustainable agriculture initiatives aimed at improving services and livelihoods across underserved rural communities in India.

BITS Pilani has entered into a strategic partnership with Avio Smart Market Stack Limited (ASMS), formerly known as Bartronics India Limited, to jointly develop technology-based solutions targeting key challenges faced by rural India.
The collaboration, formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), brings together BITS Pilani’s academic and research expertise with ASMS’s implementation network and rural outreach capabilities.

The initiative aims to build scalable and evidence-based solutions designed to improve governance, digital access, agricultural productivity, and service delivery in underserved regions.
Under the partnership, the two institutions will work on creating an integrated digital ecosystem using technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, and advanced data analytics.
The projects will focus on strengthening operational efficiency, promoting digital inclusion, and improving access to services in rural communities.
According to the organizations, the collaboration seeks to address major issues affecting rural populations, including limited access to formal banking systems, lack of quality agricultural support, inadequate healthcare access, poor market intelligence, and the growing need for climate-resilient farming practices.
BITS Pilani will contribute expertise from its engineering, management, research, and data science disciplines to support the development of practical solutions that can be implemented on a larger scale across the country.
The partnership is also expected to create new research and innovation opportunities for students and scholars at the institute by connecting academic work with field-level applications in rural development.
Among the early-stage initiatives being explored are crop yield prediction models, digital financial literacy programs, and e-governance research projects specifically designed for rural India.
The institutions said the collaboration aims to create sustainable and replicable models that can deliver long-term social and economic impact.
Commenting on the partnership, Dr Raja Krishna Murthy M, Head-Agri Tech Business, ASMS, said, “Our collaboration with BITS Pilani marks a significant step toward building a technology-driven and inclusive rural ecosystem for India.”
“By combining academic excellence with industry-scale implementation, we aim to deliver innovative solutions in agriculture, digital governance, financial inclusion, and rural livelihoods, ultimately creating sustainable impact for millions of farmers and underserved communities across the country,” Murthy added.
The organizations said the initiative is expected to serve as a broader example of outcome-focused collaboration between industry and academia, highlighting how technology and research can be applied to solve large-scale developmental challenges in India.
