Cultural and tribal heritage showcased in state festival

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi inaugurated the Adivasi Mela 2026 in Bhubaneswar, marking the beginning of the state’s annual celebration of its rich tribal heritage, culture and traditional livelihoods. The festival aims to highlight the diversity of Odisha’s indigenous communities while promoting their economic empowerment through cultural visibility and market access.
The Adivasi Mela features stalls representing various tribal groups from across the state, showcasing traditional handicrafts, handloom products, forest-based goods, organic food items and indigenous artefacts. Artisans and self-help groups have been provided direct platforms to interact with consumers, helping strengthen income generation and support local entrepreneurship.

Cultural performances form a key attraction of the festival, with tribal dance forms, folk music and rituals being presented to reflect the unique traditions of different communities. These performances not only preserve intangible cultural heritage but also create awareness among urban audiences about the social and cultural life of Odisha’s tribal populations.
The event also serves as a platform to highlight government initiatives aimed at tribal welfare, including schemes related to education, healthcare, skill development and livelihood support. Officials noted that the mela aligns with broader policy objectives of inclusive development, cultural preservation and empowerment of Scheduled Tribes.
By bringing together culture, commerce and community participation, the Odisha Adivasi Mela reinforces the state’s commitment to safeguarding tribal identities while integrating them into the mainstream development process. The festival underscores the role of cultural platforms in fostering social inclusion, economic opportunity and respect for indigenous knowledge systems.
