Conference highlights the role of women in agriculture, innovation, and rural livelihoods

India hosted the Global Conference on Women in Agri-Food Systems 2026 in New Delhi from 12–14 March 2026. The conference brought together policymakers, researchers, and international experts to discuss the role of women in strengthening agriculture and food systems.
The event was organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and focused on improving the participation and leadership of women in agriculture. Discussions highlighted the need for greater access to technology, finance, training, and markets for women farmers and entrepreneurs.

Participants also addressed issues related to gender equality, innovation in agri-food systems, and the enhancement of rural livelihoods. The conference explored ways to strengthen policies and programmes that empower women in agricultural production, value chains, and agribusiness.
Women constitute a significant share of the agricultural workforce in India, making their empowerment crucial for sustainable rural development. Experts noted that improving women’s participation in agriculture will support inclusive growth, food security, and resilient agri-food systems.
