Government coordinates emergency operations with Air India, IndiGo, and Air India Express to repatriate stranded passengers

In response to ongoing airspace disruptions in West Asia triggered by heightened regional tensions, the Government of India coordinated 58 special flights on 4 March 2026 to assist Indian passengers stranded in Gulf countries. The operation was facilitated through the Ministry of Civil Aviation in collaboration with major Indian carriers, including Air India, IndiGo, and Air India Express.
The sudden closure and restriction of airspace across parts of West Asia led to widespread flight cancellations and schedule disruptions, affecting thousands of Indian nationals working and residing in the Gulf region. Recognising the urgency of the situation, the government swiftly mobilised additional flights to ensure safe and timely repatriation.

The special operations demonstrate India’s proactive approach toward citizen welfare during international crises. The aviation sector played a crucial role in crisis management, adjusting schedules, rerouting aircraft, and deploying additional capacity despite operational challenges.
The move also highlights how geopolitical tensions can significantly impact global travel, trade, and economic stability. Airlines continue to monitor the situation closely, with further schedule adjustments expected if airspace restrictions persist.
Through coordinated efforts between government agencies and airlines, thousands of passengers are expected to return safely, reflecting India’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad during times of international uncertainty.
