India targets production of 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030 to boost clean energy transition

The Government of India has accelerated the implementation of the National Green Hydrogen Mission to promote the production and adoption of clean hydrogen fuel. The mission is a key component of India’s strategy to transition toward sustainable and low-carbon energy sources.
Under the initiative, India aims to produce 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030. Green hydrogen is generated using renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, making it an environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels.

The government has introduced incentives to promote electrolyser manufacturing and the development of hydrogen production hubs across the country. These measures are expected to attract significant private sector investment and strengthen renewable energy infrastructure.
The expansion of green hydrogen production will play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions in sectors such as industry, transport, and energy. Experts believe the mission will also strengthen India’s energy security while creating opportunities for the country to become a global hub for green hydrogen exports.
