Public-private partnerships and highway charging networks to support India’s growing electric mobility sector
The Government of India is intensifying efforts to expand electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the country. The initiative is being implemented under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) programme to support the transition toward cleaner transportation.
As part of the expansion plan, the government is encouraging public-private partnerships to develop and operate EV charging stations. Collaboration with private companies is expected to accelerate infrastructure development and improve accessibility for EV users.

The initiative also focuses on installing charging stations along major highways and within urban transport networks. This step aims to address range anxiety among consumers and ensure convenient charging facilities for both private and commercial electric vehicles.
Experts believe that strengthening EV charging infrastructure will play a crucial role in encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles in India. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions in the transport sector while promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility solutions.
