IIT-Delhi is offering new course: MA in Culture, Society and Thought is a uniquely-designed interdisciplinary program focusing on the thematic of culture, society, and thought.
The Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi has recently launched a unique interdisciplinary Master’s course which is designed to focus on thematic of culture, society, and thought.
The course offered by the institute’s Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, is a two-year full-time program that encompasses core disciplines of sociology, literature, and philosophy.

“The new MA program explores aspects of contemporaneity and interdisciplinarity across disciplines in the Humanities and Social Sciences,” said Prof. Farhana Ibrahim, Head, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Highlighting its advantage, Prof Ibrahim added that the location at IIT Delhi gives it a unique vantage point to generate a new corpus of knowledge, populate new kinds of archives, and develop critical methodologies to give new directions to humanities and social science research from the global south.
“The program offers a unique opportunity for students to explore courses across traditional disciplines, and to forge new synergies across existing Master’s programs offered by the Department, viz. Cognitive Science and Economics,” Prof. Ibrahim said.
The program will train and equip students for a variety of fields including research, academia, social work, think tanks, media and policymaking, among others, in government and non-governmental organizations, research institutes, social entrepreneurship organizations etc.
Graduates from the MA program will also be eligible to join the doctoral programs offered by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Delhi, or other international doctoral programs, said the release.
An Open House will be conducted on March 15, 2024 for interested candidates to learn more about the program structure, fees, faculty members, scholarships, accommodations, academic and career prospects, among other aspects, it said.
The application for this course is set to begin on March 20 and the last date for the application is April 4.
The course is open to candidates with bachelor’s degree in any subject but with a minimum percentage of 55% or equivalent CGPA.
The admission procedure includes shortlisting through an entrance examination or GATE 2024 score (XH) followed by an interview of the shortlisted candidates in May 2024, according to the official statement.
